Home Cinema Build

So, there’s an extension to my garage, that is inside the house that we have never really used.  The games room has all the crap from the day we moved in that we have never unboxed or used, and the pool room really isn’t big enough for the projector & seating.

This is the current floor plan:

This is where I want to end up:

The room is slightly wedge shaped, but after I edited this I realised the angled wall is the long one…

Issues include:

  • Lights are in the wrong place
  • Second transformer for lights required after split
  • Sockets unavailable or wrong place
  • Electrics in the rooms are dangerous DIY effort.
  • Fuse boc in middle of wall.
  • Games room is uninsulated (single walled)
  • Loft partially insulated
  • Ceiling is stippled
  • 2M arch into the room from the main house needs converting to a single door.
  • floor is two different heights in the two rooms.
  • No heating in the rooms[/list]

This means lots of stud work, electrical work and insulation.

Build.

The intention here was to straighten walls, hide pillars and insulate the bottom end.  All the studding was completed on day one, and plasterboard went up wherever we could (i.e. not where cables go) this is what is looked like.

This is last night after I finished fitting the Dado rail. Undercoat is on.

On to the painting, then we have done all the messy stuff ahead of the carpet which comes tomorrow…

Carpets, seating, calibration next…

OK, time to use it as intended…

The finished room is air-conditioned, with dedicated electrics and audio/visual cable runs.  All the walls and ceilings are studded and insulated with carpet running up the walls 1 metre where it stops at a dado rail to deaden unwanted sounds.

We have a 106″ screen and 7.1 surround supplied using:

  • Panasonic PTAE3000 projector for Hif definition images.
  • Virgin Media HD box for TV (AKA F1 source)
  • Panasonic BD35 Blue-Ray player
  • Onkyo 806 supplying the sound and feeding the projector.
  • Front left & right are Kefs, remainder are Eltax Monitor 3, Eltax Centre and sub.
