Apart from the frankly retarded changes with save & export, the later simply saves in whatever file format you chose to for is useless unless you are saving in .xcf, 2.8 is a nice upgrade to GIMP, especially the single window option which should remove the vanishing tools problem. Plenty of changes to this rather nice free programme.
