There are several ways to ensure your machine can play most files you can throw at it; codec packs are the simplest. The Mega Pack includes codecs, Real & Quicktime Alternatives (so you no longer need install either of them) and MediaPlayer Classic, the K-Lite is the codecs only with reductions in the number filters as indicated…

Clearly they also provide a Win 7 64 bit version here, note that this supports 64 bit applications and comes with limited codecs.  You CAN run this in parallel with the 32-bit version for fuller support.

Downloads:

  • K-Lite Codec packs 5 to 15MB
  • K-Lite Mega Pack 25MB
  • K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit 6MB
